Heavy rains in Malaga cause the Manilva river to overflow and forced the major coastal motorway (A-7) to shut in several places
A real deluge has battered the normally beautiful sunshine coast of Marbella on the ironically named "Costa Del Sol"
Local Country Manager for Luxurybreaks Jeremy Joneau reported "I was driving the company minibus to pick up clients at the airport and the water was so deep in places it started to come through into the cabin. It's crazy nearly every winter now we are having weird weather. I remember only a few years ago we had hailstones the size of small oranges smashing car windows and denting roofs! So much for those who say climate change doesn't exist!"
This morning across many points in Malaga and the surrounding districts, there were spectacular torrents of water witnessed.
The most affected area this morning is the western coastline of the province, with multiple indcidents reported in Marbella, Estepona and Manilva.
Heavy morning rains caused the river Manilava to overflow.
Mayor Antonia Muñoz, commented that "the river has overflowed and flooded the underground tunnel of the A-7 on its way through Sabinillas. The A-7 is cut at junction 144 in both directions and at junction 163 (Estepona) in direction Cádiz".
Moreover, explained the mayor, "all subways are flooded as is the case of Marina de Casares and Puerto Duquesa."
The '112' emergency service has attended about 100 incidents in Marbella and Estepona, especially floods and landslides. Estepona firemen have received over 150 calls reporting various problems related to rain in several neighborhoods of the town and the marina.
Evacuation plan in a school
The Manilva Town Council is organizing an evacuation plan for Maicandil school and its 360 students.
Orange Alert
In Málaga landslides have also occurred, fallen trees and flooding in El Palo and the 'Carretera de Cádiz'.
The fishing fleet has been unable to go fishing today due to waves and strong winds. The orange alert for heavy rainfall is in effect and now has been extended until midnight on Wednesday.
DO YOU THINK THE WEATHER PATTERNS IN YOUR AREA HAVE CHANGED IN THE LAST 5 YEARS?
DID YOU AND/OR YOUR PARENTS USED TO BE ABLE TO PLAN THINGS AT CERTAIN TIMES OF THE YEAR WITH CONFIDENCE THAT THE SEASONS WOULD ALLOW FOR IT - AND NOW FIND THE WEATHER PATTERNS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE?
